7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.~ 1 John 4:7-8 (NLT) emphasis added.
Today I want to talk about love. Not the goo-goo eye love with cherubs and arrows, but the kind of every day love that Jesus encourages to have for each other.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. ~1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
In 1 John, we see that God IS love. Simple. He is love. And, in 1 Corinthians, He shows us what that means.
God is patient.
God is kind.
He does not envy, does not boast, is not proud.
He does not dishonor others, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs.
God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
God never fails.
I want you to see today the love He has for you. Our God is kind. He delights in you. He dances around you and sings sweet songs to you (Zephaniah 3:17). Just like your daddy did when you were born, so our Father in Heaven does for us constantly. He is love. And, our place is to be loved by Him. And, in turn love Him and His children.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end. ~ The Message
