Freedom in Christ
5 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Have you ever noticed how hard it is to break a habit? Not even a “big” habit, like drinking or drugs. But, a “little” habit. Well, I guess there are no little habits.
Gossiping. Complaining. Cussing. Comfort eating. Biting your nails. Hoarding. What is your habit?
Why do we allow our habits to own us?
Because the devil wants us in bondage.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
God speaks often in the Word about guarding our tongues and not gossiping, complaining. He also spoke of loving our neighbors as ourselves. Would you shove cigarettes in your neighbor’s mouth? Would you bury your neighbors in heaps of should-be-trashed-or-donated stuff that isolates them and makes feel embarrassed to have friends or family over?
If He had to speak of it so often then, He definitely needs to speak of it now.
We are not in bondage. We are children of the one true God. Jesus did not come all the way down here to mess around with our continued lack of self control. I have. too. We all do.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.(Emphasis added.)
Be free and be free in Christ. He is the only one who guarantees our freedom. Too many of us search for freedom in things of this world.
Nothing offers true freedom like Jesus Christ. Everything else makes you a slave. And, prides itself on its ability to do so.
Today, neglect your feelings of defeat. YOU ARE FREE! Don’t allow the enemy to weigh you down.
36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
Be free today. Release your burdens to the Lord. He has already set you free.
Heavenly Father, please help to realize our freedom in you today. Help us to release our burdens, for only you can truly set us free. Allow us to experience your freedom today like never before. We love you, Lord. And, we thank you. Amen.
