Independence Day Syrup

Today I woke up, watered our pathetic excuse for a garden (Thank you, Texas heat.), and made watched my mom make pancakes for the family. Nothing beats a late morning brunch of pancakes dripping in homemade syrup.

So, I wanted to share the recipe with you. I always forget syrup at the store, so we’ve just decided to start making our own. Here it is! Enjoy!

What you’ll need:

1.5 cups of sugar

1 cup of water

2 Tbsp. Molasses

Heat it on the stove over medium heat and allow it to gently boil for several minutes. Keep an eye on it, and stir often.

Tip: Start your syrup before you begin cooking your pancakes. It takes about 20 minutes to thicken, and maybe more than that depending on how think you want it.

By the time you have your beautiful stack of pancakes, your homemade syrup should be done, too. Enjoy!

Happy Independence Day, everybody! Be safe! And, be blessed!

  1. For extra flavor, add a dollop of butter to your syrup just before pouring. Allow it to melt into the mixture. YUM! If you want a more syrupy texture, add white Karo syrup.
