DIY Lotion via Frugal Green Girl

I must admit, I usually tweak recipes. Mostly because I have to use trial and error due to inferior explanations.

Not with this one.

If you are a wannabe simple living expert like me, then you must check out Frugal Green Girl on YouTube. Her video’s are exceptional and her directions are flawless.

Today, I made homemade lotion thanks to Frugal Green Girl! Enjoy!

*My Special Tip: Use a 2-cup measuring cup. When your water reaches 120 degrees, pour your water into your oil until it reaches the 2-cup mark. This gives perfect lotion consistency IMO. Adjust as you see fit 😉

The American gospel has evolved…

When you accept Christ, you must turn away from sin. When someone met Jesus in person, He would tell them “Go, and sin no more.” We can’t have it both ways.

Ray Comfort's Daily Evidence

This is so like the god spoken of by popular preachers. They name the name of the Lord, but they do not know Him in truth or walk in righteousness.

“The American gospel has evolved into a gospel of addition without subtraction. It is the belief that we can add Christ to our lives, but not subtract sin. It is a change in belief without a change in behavior…Obedience is the proof.” Patrick Morley

Isaiah 48:1 Hear this, O house of Jacob, Hear this, O house of Jacob, Who are called by the name of Israel, And have come forth from the wellsprings of Judah; Who swear by the name of the Lord, And make mention of the God of Israel, But not in truth or in righteousness.

DIY Toothpaste – Save Money and Save Your Smile

So, I’m out of toothpaste, and I don’t feel like going to the store. What better way to experiment with DIY recipes then out of simple necessity.

I googled “DIY toothpaste” and boy howdy you find a lot of options.

Ones with coconut oil.

One with some kind of crazy gum in them.

Others with stuff we’d never find around here.

After reviewing several recipes, I went with the one from DIY Natural, which is a cool site I will check out more often. Here’s the recipe for your reference:

  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt (optional – direct application of the minerals in sea salt is great for teeth, but can be left out if the taste is too salty)
  • 1 – 2 tsp peppermint extract or 10-15 drops peppermint essential oil (or add your favorite flavor – spearmint, orange, etc.)
  • filtered water (add to desired consistency)

This is directly copied from DIY Natural so I do not own it nor try to act like I am smart enough to come up with this on my own.

I found another recipe that has very different measurements from this one — much smaller measurements. I’m trying it first and getting input from the Hubby and Little Girl. I will keep you posted on what we think!

Have you made your own toothpaste? Have a different recipe? Please share!

God bless!

So I came across the coolest thing – How to Waterproof Matches – Survival Babe™

I adore Cody Lundin. Some of you may know him from the television show Dual Survival. Attending one of Cody’s ALSS Trainings is on my bucket list, so of course whenever possible I pick up one of his books and peruse the pages for self-sustaining survival strategies. One of my favorite books to grab at the library — and to add to this year’s Christmas list — is

When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need To Survive When Disaster Strikes.

I’m so excited about this book. It gives you real knowledge of what to do before you are in a survival situation. As, Cody says in the intro, don’t wait until you are standing in three feet of flood waters to open this book for the first time. Read it and prepare before emergencies happen.

One of my favorite things I discovered in his book is how to waterproof matches. What you need:

  • Strike-anywhere matches (Make sure they say strike anywhere on the box)
  • Candles
  • Something to shave/grate the candle wax with
  • A pot you don’t need to cook in again
  • An egg carton
  • Tweezers or needle-nosed pliers

First, punch little holes the exact size of your match sticks into the unused egg carton. This will be used to hold your matches upright during the drying process.

I used a knife to shave my candle in to small cooking pot. On a low heat, melt the wax. This is a low and slow process. Please heed my warnings:

DO NOT under any circumstance leave this pot unattended. Believe me. The scorch mark on my ceiling and the fun tale my hubby likes to share about my exploits proves my point here.

DO NOT stand directly over the pot while the wax is melting at any time.

DO NOT – and I mean do not – pour water in the pot should the pot catch on fire while you are melting the wax. (Yeah, I know. I know that now.)

When the wax is melted, roll a few match sticks at a time in the wax coating them thoroughly. Lift them out gently with your tweezers or needle-nose pliers, and place them all Operation Game style in the tiny holes you made in the egg carton. Done!

Wait until they dry and you have your very own waterproofed matches.

Thank you, Cody, for helping me survival should all jalapeno breaks loose! If you haven’t read Cody’s book, I highly suggest it!

Be blessed and less stressed!

Scripture of the Day: Psalm 27 (NIV)

Psalm 27

Of David.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
    of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked advance against me
    to devour[a] me,
it is my enemies and my foes
    who will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me,
    my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
    even then I will be confident.

One thing I ask from the Lord,
    this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
    and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble
    he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
    and set me high upon a rock.

Then my head will be exalted
    above the enemies who surround me;
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;
    I will sing and make music to the Lord.

Hear my voice when I call, Lord;
    be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
    Your face, Lord, I will seek.
Do not hide your face from me,
    do not turn your servant away in anger;
    you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
    God my Savior.
10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
    the Lord will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, Lord;
    lead me in a straight path
    because of my oppressors.
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
    for false witnesses rise up against me,
    spouting malicious accusations.

13 I remain confident of this:
    I will see the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong and take heart
    and wait for the Lord.

Simple Suppers – Heavenly Chalupa Creations and Spending Time With My Peeps

In honor of my mom’s 68th birthday and the chalupa-feast dinner we had for her, here’s a blast from the past post from 2011. Enjoy and God bless!

Christ-following Minimalist

Taco meat goodness

“nuff said

  • Ready made tostada shells (I used the baked ones and–oddly–they were fabulous.)
  • Taco Meat (ground meat with taco seasoning. Just follow the directions on the spice packet, and you are good to go.)
  • Refried beans (Make your own or buy them in a can–Seriously. Black beans would have been amazing on this!)
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Sour Cream
  • Cheese of your choice
  • Chives, onions, black olives, salsa, cilantro, or anything else you’d like to savor on your chalupa.

Simple Suppers come from the idea that we like great food, simple recipes, and little prep time. This is one of my favorite Simple Suppers. With chalupa shell in hand, I was an artist with a little round canvas smearing and building and concocting combinations. Plus, my mom and hubby were there creating, too. Family bonding. I loved it! Create chalupa combinations and bring out…
